Google Ends Support for Early Nest Thermostats – What Homeowners Need to Know

Google has announced it will end support for the 1st and 2nd generation Nest Learning Thermostats from October 2025. These were among the first smart thermostats on the market, but after more than a decade of service, they’ll soon lose many of their connected features.

What’s Changing For The Nest Thermostats

From October 2025:
The affected Nest models will no longer connect to the Nest or Google Home apps.
Features like remote control, app scheduling, and Google Assistant voice control will stop working.
The thermostat will still work manually, letting you adjust temperature and schedules directly on the device.
Newer models, such as the 3rd Generation Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E, are not affected and will continue to receive updates.

What About UK and European Customers?

Google has also said it will stop selling new Nest thermostats in Europe once current stock runs out. This means availability could become limited over the next year.
To ease the transition, Google is offering discounts on certain upgrades and even recommending alternatives like the Tado Smart Thermostat X.
