Vaillant F75 Error Code

Vaillant F75 Error Code: What It Means and How to Fix It
If you’re a homeowner with a Vaillant boiler and suddenly find yourself facing an F75 error code, don’t panic – you’re not alone. This is one of the more common issues users encounter with Vaillant’s ecoTEC range, and in many cases, it’s a problem that can be diagnosed and resolved with a bit of know-how.
What Does the F75 Error Code Mean?
The F75 error code indicates that the boiler is unable to detect a pressure rise when the pump starts running. In simpler terms, the boiler expects water pressure to increase slightly when the pump kicks in — and if it doesn’t, the boiler shuts down to prevent damage.
This problem usually occurs during start-up, especially when the heating or hot water is first turned on.
Common Causes of the F75 Error
Faulty Pressure Sensor
One of the most frequent culprits. Older Vaillant models had known issues with early-generation pressure sensors that were prone to failure.
Pump Failure or Seizure
If the pump isn’t working correctly (blocked, jammed, or failed), it won’t circulate water — meaning no pressure change will be detected.
Airlocks in the System
Trapped air can prevent water from circulating properly, leading to a false F75 error.
Low System Pressure
If your boiler’s pressure is below the recommended 1.0–1.5 bar, the pump may not be able to create sufficient flow.
Debris or Sludge in the System
Central heating sludge can clog up the pump or sensors, interfering with normal operation.
How to Fix an F75 Error
Safety Note: Always turn off your boiler and consult one of our experienced Gas Safe registered engineers if you’re not confident handling boiler components.
1. Check the Pressure Gauge
Make sure your system pressure is in the correct range. If it’s low:
Locate the filling loop (usually a silver braided hose).
Open the valves slowly to refill the system to 1.2–1.5 bar.
Close both valves tightly.
2. Reset the Boiler
After repressurising, press the reset button on the front panel. If the F75 code persists, move to the next steps.
3. Bleed Radiators
Air in the system can cause circulation issues. Use a radiator key to bleed air from each radiator, then check pressure again.
4. Listen to the Pump
Can you hear the pump running? A healthy pump will hum or gently vibrate. If it’s silent or making unusual noises, it may be stuck or dead.
5. Call an AGS Engineer
If you’ve checked the basics and the problem persists, it’s time to call a heating engineer. Our experienced team can:
Replace a faulty pressure sensor (a common fix).
Diagnose and replace a failed pump.
Flush the system if sludge is an issue.
Preventing Future F75 Errors
Regular Servicing: Annual maintenance helps catch problems before they cause breakdowns.
System Flushes: Flushing your heating system every few years removes sludge buildup.
Add a Magnetic Filter: These devices capture metal particles before they clog the pump or sensor.
While the F75 error code can be frustrating, it’s often a symptom of an underlying issue rather than a catastrophic failure. With regular maintenance and a prompt response to warning signs, you can keep your Vaillant boiler running smoothly year-round.
